5 Essential Books I’d Want In a Post-Apocalyptic World

In my generation especially a lot of people in the US have been raised with a very Christian background. Some people were super strictly religious. Some families were not quite so religious - sort of non-practicing but claimed the background anyhow. That' a lot more common among Protestant folks in this area.

Most people that I work with or people that I've spoken with in the past have heard the term Wicca. It’s like anyone who has ever explored “alternative” forms of spirituality have come across Wicca.

But over the weekend, as I was just kind of in contemplation mode, it occurred to me: when I was coming out of the religious background that I was raised in, what types of things would I have wanted to know - what would have truly set me up for Spiritual fulfillment? The plethora of information out there on the web and everything that’s available in books today is wonderful.

But if you’re new, it can be a little daunting to explore all that stuff.

Maybe you don't want to be a Wiccan. Maybe you don't want to be involved in specific Traditions. Maybe you would rather be more eclectic or more open to new ideas but not necessarily stuck in a specific framework.

There have been groups in the past who wouldn't forbid you, necessarily, to do something outside of the group but they also wouldn’t outright encourage you to do research and participate in public ceremonies and so on. They would rather you work with the material they give you, to master this particular thing, and then you can use that as a jumping-off point.

I understand the reasoning behind that and I have kind of been that way myself over the past several years. But not everything resonates with everyone.

I was kind of thinking: what would have been my ideal set of five books that I would have liked to have read from jump street? What information do I wish I had then, that I have now? What would have informed my path then and helped me forego all the sidestepping and swirling about randomly trying to find things that fit?

So I decide to go through my bookshelf find the five essential books that I would want to have started on my journey. Or what if I could only have 5 books out of my entire library on a deserted island? Or what books would I want in my backpack if shit hits the fan and Armageddon happens? What five books would I want in my backpack as I set out to travel the country in a post-apocalyptic world?

Check them out in the video below!

If you have essential books that you’d want to have in a post-apocalyptic world, comment below. The challenge is keeping it narrowed down to five. It doesn't matter whether they’re spiritual books or not - just keep them to five.
